Stripe announced on September 8 that Meta’s new personal agent, Muse, can pay for things using Link, Stripe’s saved-payment wallet. At the “more than 1 million businesses that accept Link,” the agent can check out instantly with a U.S. consumer’s stored payment method. For every other business, Stripe says, “Link issues Muse a single-use virtual card scoped to the approved purchase.”
That second sentence is the one to read twice. It means an agent does not need a business to have built anything special in order to buy from it. A one-time card number, good for one approved amount at one merchant, works wherever a card works.
Stripe frames this as agents spending “across the internet on behalf of consumers.” The consumer approves the purchase; the plumbing behind it is the same card rails a restaurant or a hotel already runs.
For the valley: a Palm Desert restaurant, a La Quinta contractor or an Indio retailer does not have to add an API, a plugin or a new checkout to be bought from by someone’s agent. If a customer can pay you with a card today, an agent can too.
