What changed

Google announced on October 29 that users can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets and code directly within the Gemini app conversation. Users can type changes in a full-screen view and ask Gemini to revise selected content. Google says PDF preview and editing work on web and mobile, while editing Google Docs, Sheets, slides, Markdown, TXT and code is web-only. It describes the capability as available to all users where Gemini is offered; AICV News has not tested it.

You can now make a file in Gemini and edit it before leaving the conversation, according to Google's October 29 announcement. Instead of receiving only an AI-generated document to work on elsewhere, users can preview and revise PDFs, documents, presentations, spreadsheets and code inside the chat.

Google says a user can open a file full-screen, type edits, highlight text to ask questions and request changes from Gemini. Its example starts with uploaded handwritten lecture notes, turns them into a PDF study guide, then lets the user adjust the resulting text or visuals.

There is an important difference between devices. PDF previews and editing are supported on both web and mobile. Google says editing Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, plain-text files and code is available on the web only. It says the new capabilities are available to all users in languages and places where the Gemini app is offered.

This is Google's description of a released feature, not a hands-on assessment. AICV News has not tested whether the edits preserve complicated layouts, spreadsheet formulas or factual accuracy. The brief announcement provides no measured user outcomes.

Why it matters here

Our read: Being able to inspect and revise a working file inside an assistant could be useful to students, creators and small teams. But a file that looks finished still needs a person to check the numbers, wording and layout before it is shared.

One question worth testing

Would you trust the edited file without reopening it in your usual application and checking the result?
