OpenAI launches dots, always-on personal agents inside ChatGPT
What changed
On September 29, OpenAI announced dots, always-on agents powered by GPT-6 Astra, rolling out in ChatGPT to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets, with a beta for Enterprise workspaces when an admin enables it. Each dot has its own cloud computer and browser, connects to over 4,000 apps through plugins, and can be reached in ChatGPT, Slack and Teams, with texting coming soon. Users can open a dot's computer to inspect its work. OpenAI says dots start with built-in rules for when to act and when to ask approval, that Custom Rules let users allow, require approval for or block actions, and that background 'proactive research' uses read-only tools. Changing a password always stays with the user. The first dot is included in Pro and Business Premium plans at no extra cost; OpenAI says users will later be able to add more. OpenAI says dots can still make mistakes.

Not confirmed by us
- This is OpenAI describing its own product. We did not test dots, and we did not read the dots safety blog, Help Center page or system card that OpenAI's post links.
- OpenAI does not say in its post which markets are 'eligible', or what the allowance for deeper work is beyond extended limits for the first month. Plan prices are not stated there, and we used none from other coverage.
